Julie Sweeney comes to the university with 30 years of clinical experience, mostly in pediatric hematology oncology. She graduated with her BSN from CU in 1992 and worked in Pensacola, FL, San Diego, CA, and Palo Alto, CA before returning to Colorado in 2005. She worked as a nurse at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) for 17 years. Julie obtained her Master's in Nursing Education from Aspen University in 2021. She taught as Adjunct Faculty for the College of Nursing for two years before joining as full-time faculty. She is currently a Clinical Instructor, specializing in Pediatrics, for the students in the undergraduate programs. Julie also continues to work as a Clinical Scholar at CHCO.

Julie has been involved in global health initiatives in Panama including a twinning project with Hospital Del Nino and Cureall Panama, a joint venture between WHO and St. Jude Global aimed at improving patient outcomes in pediatric oncology. She is also passionate about diversity, health equity, and inclusion.
