Sharon Sables-Baus is an associate professor with appointments at both the College of Nursing and the School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics. Through the College of Nursing, Sables-Baus teaches across all programs including the doctorate of nursing practice (DNP) program. Dr. Sables-Baus is also a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery at UCHealth on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Colorado. Most recently, the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety (CBPPS) recognized Sables-Baus as a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS). Earning this credential attests to Dr. Sables-Baus' professional competency in patient safety science and application.

Dr. Sables-Baus' work aims to promote the best research evidence and integrate/transform it into practice, targeting in particular neurodevelopmental health outcomes of hospitalized neonates and infants. Sables-Baus’ research has explored ways to decrease neurodevelopmental morbidity and to optimize evidence-based caregiving practices that affect neurodevelopmental outcomes. Emblematic of this program of research, Sables-Baus was a part of team that conducted a longitudinal study of neonates born with congenital heart defects requiring three-stage surgical repair; the team used the Bayley Scales of Infant Development to assess neurodevelopmental outcomes including oral feeding. Outcomes of this research has been shared at many conferences (both domestic and international) and published in scientific journals. Sables-Baus is a member of the Colorado Pediatric Nurse Scientist Partnership (CPNSP) and the National Pediatric Nurse Scientist Collaborative. Furthermore, Sables-Baus chaired a national committee (National Association of Neonatal Nurses) tasked with developing evidence-based, infant-driven, oral-feeding guidelines for hospitalized neonates.
