A certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP), Kristine Gauthier has nearly 18 years of experience as an advanced practice nurse in a variety of settings. In addition to her Bachelor of Nursing degree from Elmhurst College, she possesses master's degrees in both Nursing (PNP) from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis, and Public Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She earned her Ph.D. in Nursing from the Colorado University’s College of Nursing in 2014.

Gauthier began her nursing career as a Staff Nurse in the U.S. Air Force. Since then, she has practiced as a PNP in a variety of settings encompassing the community and public health arenas (oftentimes underserved populations). She entered the academic arena in 2011 while maintaining her practice, and has coordinated and developed a variety of clinical undergraduate and graduate nursing and public health courses. Prior to joining the College of Nursing in 2014, Gauthier was an Assistant Professor at Creighton University’s College of Nursing.

Her research interests fall within the realm of pediatric obesity, specifically assessing parental perceptions of their preschooler's weight status. Her dissertation focused on assessing the perception accuracy of Hispanic parents as determined using an innovative health information technology (HIT) based assessment and intervention tool. Gauthier’s research trajectory includes addressing childhood obesity-related health disparities, and she hopes to expand the use of technology to improve adherence to obesity guidelines and improve parental perceptions of their child’s weight status.
