Mustafa Ozkaynak joined the faculty of the University of Colorado College of Nursing in 2013. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. During his postdoc, he was part of a research team that studied the structural quality of anticoagulation management. He earned his MS and PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His dissertation was entitled “Characterizing Workflow in Hospital Emergency Departments.” As a PhD student, he received a Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) PhD scholarship.

His research interests include workflow in clinical and non-clinical health settings and the organizational and social consequences of health information technologies. His recent interest is in:
  1. Characterizing workflow to inform health information technologies;
  2. Workflow-informed adaptable clinical decision support systems; and
  3. Clinical decision support systems that are informed by daily living activities.

His research has been supported by Agency for Healthcare Research and Safety (AHRQ), National Institute of Health (NIH) and Center for Disease Control (CDC). He is a fellow of Health Information Management Systems Society.
