Spring 2023 Commencement and Convocation
Commencement: 8:30 am at Boettcher Commons
Convocation: 10:30 am at Bonfils Circle (in front of the Fitzsimons Building)
Please be advised, there are TWO commencement ceremonies on the morning of Monday, May 22: the CU Anschutz Commencement and the College of Nursing Convocation.
The CU Anschutz Commencement will begin at 8:30 am and conclude around 10:00 am. It will be held at Boettcher Commons,
CU Anschutz Medical Campus
13080 E. 19th Avenue, Aurora, CO 80045
The College of Nursing Convocation will begin directly following the CU Anschutz Commencement at 10:30 am and will end at 12:30 pm. It will be held on Bonfils Circle, directly in front of the Fitzsimmons Building
1707 Aurora Court, Aurora, CO 80045
The difference between the two ceremonies is that the CU Anschutz Commencement is dedicated to celebrating all graduating students at CU Anschutz, while the College of Nursing Commencement is dedicated specifically to nursing graduates. Attendance at both ceremonies is expected.
The date to apply for graduation has passed. If you intend to graduate in Spring 2023, please email con.studentaffairs@cuanschutz.edu immediately to discuss options for degree conferral and participation in the graduation events.
All students intending to participate in the spring commencement and convocation are required to RSVP and purchase regalia by April 13, 2023, at 9:59 pm (MST). The confirmation email will contain the link to order regalia from Herff Jones and the link to record your name pronunciation in NameCoach.
Through the Herff Jones site, you can opt to have your regalia shipped for a fee or to pick it up on campus a few days before the event for free. If you choose to have your regalia shipped to you, it should arrive at least three days prior to the ceremony.
In addition to ordering regalia, you can also use the Herff Jones site to order announcements, graduation souvenirs, and diploma frames.
Important Information for Doctoral Students
Doctoral students will be hooded on stage and will be asked in the RSVP form to indicate your hooder’s name. It is the student’s responsibility to communicate with the hooder to ensure that the faculty member plans to attend the ceremony. Faculty members must confirm their participation by registering through the faculty rsvp website. Doctoral hooding is generally assigned as follows:
Program | Hooder |
PhD | Advisor/Mentor |
DNP | Capstone Advisor/other CU Nursing Faculty Member |
If you are having difficulty confirming with your hooder, please reach out to the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs.
All College of Nursing faculty intending to participate in fall commencement, must RSVP and order regalia (if needed) by April 13, 2023, at 9:59 p.m. The cost for faculty regalia is paid for by the College. Through the registration site, you can note if regalia is needed, if you have your own, or if you have everything except for a hood.
As COVID safety measures roll back in response to the rapid drop in cases, we have rescinded the limit on guests at our ceremonies. However, all attendees are still asked to be vaccinated at the time of the ceremonies. Unvaccinated graduates and guests are asked to mask and distance, especially if indoors. Please keep in mind when booking any travel that a reduction in audience size could become necessary once again if circumstances change. Anyone who is experiencing symptoms or has tested positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of Commencement is urged to stay home and watch the live stream of the ceremony.
Graduate Check-In
Check-In for the College of Nursing Convocation will begin at 9:15 am. A row of check-in desks will be located behind the College of Nursing Stage, and in front of the flagpole, near the main entrance to the Fitzsimons Building. Please check-in no later
than 10:00 am so we may begin the ceremony on time.
Transcripts and Diplomas
It is anticipated that degrees will be conferred by the Office of the Registrar by June 15. Before ordering transcripts please first view your transcript in the student portal to determine if all of the information has posted. Diplomas will be ordered in late June and will be mailed directly to students by the end of August. The degree conferral date will be posted as May 19, 2023.
