Fall 2024 Commencement and Convocation
Commencement: 2:00 p.m. at the Colorado Convention Center
The diploma application and event RSVP link for the December 2024 graduation is now closed. If you have not applied for December graduation or RSVP’d to attend graduation, contact the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs (con.studentaffairs@cuanschutz.edu) immediately to discuss options.
The commencement ceremony will be held in the Colorado Convention Center at 700 14th St. Denver, CO 80202. Enter the center at 14th St. near the Big Blue Bear. The ceremony is located in Hall D, which is on the opposite side of the convention center near the Bellco Theatre. Graduates will assemble in Hall C prior to the ceremony to prepare for the procession. Doors for graduates and guests will open at 12:45 p.m.
Prohibited ItemsParking is available in the convention center garage for $12 for up to 8 hours. Due to other events taking place in the convention center, parking in the CCC garage may be limited. Please consider other options and allow enough time in case you need to park elsewhere.
The Light Rail is a great option for getting to and from the convention center.
Designated ADA parking is available on all three levels of the Colorado Convention Center parking garage. A valid state-issued handicapped placard or license plate is required. All disability-related parking is first-come, first-served and requires payment
at the automated pay stations. Alternatively, guests may be dropped off in front of the convention center at 14th and California Streets before parking.

Cap
& Gown Pick-up/Return
Pre-ordered ceremony regalia with on-site pick-up selected can be claimed during the following distribution times:
Bring your confirmation or photo ID with you when picking up your cap and gown order.
If you did not order regalia or you had regalia shipped to you and there are issues with the order, please stop by the Herff Jones tables at either of the above times for assistance.
Cord Pickup
Students
who earned an honors designation or participated in a recognized
student organization can pick up cords in the 3rd Floor Lobby of Ed 2
North:
As a reminder, check-in for the ceremony will open at 12:45 p.m. in Hall C. Check-in desks will be located inside Hall C, please find the College of Nursing table. Please check in no later than 1:30 p.m. to prepare for the ceremony procession. Faculty marshals will begin lining up students at 1:45 p.m. The ceremony begins promptly at 2:00 p.m.
At check-in, you will receive a card with your name listed and a line-up number with instructions on the line-up on the back of the card. Look for signs with your degree to know where to line-up. The line-up for the BS and DNP is alphabetical, while Master's/PGC students line up by specialty, then alpha).
Rented gowns (and hoods, if applicable) can be returned following the ceremony to Hall C in the convention center. Caps/tams and tassels are yours to keep. If your regalia was home-shipped, your return shipping label can be used for two weeks following the ceremony. Or if it is more convenient, you may return your items in Hall C as well.
Tassels:
Undergraduates
wear tassels over the right front of the cap before the degree is
conferred. You will be instructed to move the tassel to the left after
the degree is conferred.
Graduate students wear the tassel to the left. Doctoral candidates do not wear hoods during the processional. Hoods should be draped over the left arm until officially presented on stage during the ceremony. Master's degree recipients wear their hoods to the ceremony.
Information for BS Graduates
When
you are called forward you will be met on stage by Dr. Spencer who will
pin you (pin attached to a ribbon that is placed around your neck) and a
picture will be taken. You will then proceed to Dean Eli who will
present your diploma cover and another photo will be taken.
The BS marshal is Carmen Stephens who will assist in lining up the BS graduates.
Information for Doctoral Graduates
All doctoral grads should process into the Nursing Ceremony with your hoods draped over your LEFT arm.
Your advisor will be on the stage with you and step onto the hooding box. Another faculty member will be on a second hooding box assisting. Once you are hooded a photo will be taken. Next, you will proceed to Dean Provencio-Vasquez who will present you with your degree cover and another photo will be taken.
Photography
Professional photos will be taken by The Grad Team during the ceremony. Proofs will be sent the week of the 16th.
Livestream
The ceremony will be live-streamed for any friends and family that are unable to attend in person.
Captioning
Real-time captioning will be available to follow the ceremony on a personal mobile device. Guests may visit www.cuanschutz.edu/gradcaption
to access this service. Please note that WiFi is not available in the
ceremony hall and data rates from personal devices may apply.
It is anticipated that degrees will be conferred by the Office of the Registrar by the end of December 2024. Before ordering transcripts please first view your transcript in the student portal to determine if all of the information has been posted. Diplomas will be mailed in January to the mailing address listed in UCD Access.
