Dr. Samantha Stonbraker, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN, is an Associate Professor with tenure at the University of Colorado College of Nursing. She holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. A nurse-scientist and informaticist, Dr. Stonbraker’s NIH-funded program of research focuses on developing and evaluating digital tools and evidence-based interventions that address health inequities among historically marginalized populations, particularly Latino, transgender, and HIV-affected communities. Her work is grounded in mixed-methods research designs that include participatory design, implementation science, and other methods that integrate user-centered approaches to create bilingual, culturally responsive health technologies.

Dr. Stonbraker has led and collaborated on numerous federally funded research projects, including the development of Info Viz for Health®, an EHR-integrated mobile application that uses information visualizations to improve patient-provider communication in HIV care. Her research portfolio includes mobile health (mHealth) interventions, HIV prevention tools for transgender women, and digital educational support for adolescent mothers in the Dominican Republic, among several others. With deep commitments to health equity and global health, she has maintained long-standing collaborations with Clínica de Familia La Romana in the Dominican Republic and community-based organizations across the U.S.

A recognized leader in nursing informatics, Dr. Stonbraker was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2024 and has received multiple awards, including the Distinguished Alumni Award for Nursing Research from Columbia University and the Rising Star Faculty Award from the University of Colorado. She is a dedicated mentor to trainees across disciplines and career stages, fostering the next generation of scholars in nursing, health informatics, international public health, and research to mitigate health disparities locally and globally.
