College of Nursing Marketing | College of Nursing Jul 18, 2018Congratulations to Catherine Brannan, a student in the CU College of Nursing, for being named one of the 2018 Honorable Mention winners in the Arnold P. Gold Foundation’s 2018 Hope Babette Tang Humanism in Healthcare Essay Contest, the first year of the nearly 20-year contest to expand from medical students to include nursing students. The writers shared a healthcare experience with a patient or fellow clinician that led to a new, unexpected understanding or perspective. More than 3,000 essays have been submitted to the contest.
The Arnold P. Gold Foundation recognizes healthcare providers, both medical students and nursing students, as they chronicle their experiences providing patient care in the clinical setting. The Hope Babette Tang Humanism in Healthcare Essay Contest highlights these experiences, encouraging medical and nursing students to engage in reflective writing to illustrate their experiences working with patients, asking students to write about how they truly saw their patients as they delivered the best possible care.
Catherine Brannan’s essay highlights women in a clinic in Indonesia, recounting her experience assisting midwives through her clinical training as a young nursing student. As she describes her memories learning about midwifery care abroad, she believes that with her experiences, she can help other nursing students who are learning about midwifery care.
