Dr. Kristiana Avery graduated from the University of Colorado Anschutz College of Nursing completing her MS in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program in 2010 and the PhD - Biobehavioral Science Program in 2020. Dr. Avery has been a clinical instructor with the College of Nursing since 2007 and now joins the College of Nursing as a faculty member.
Dr. Avery's work has focused on mental health across the lifespan including; child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric mental health.
Dr. Avery received the Sigma Theta Tau/Western Institute of Nursing Research grant, awarded in 2017, for her dissertation study Ion Channel Genetic Biomarkers: Diagnostic Capabilities in the Assessment of Bipolar Disorder. Her research focuses on neurogenetic biomarkers in mental health.
