Populations Experiencing Homelessness & Pandemic Implications

The COVID pandemic has had a dramatic, deleterious impact on populations experiencing homelessness in Colorado. In this presentation, we will describe facets/conditions of homelessness and persons at-risk for homelessness with a focus on youth, young adults, and adults/older adults. We will explore the unique conditions that have occurred during the pandemic to challenge the status quo of the homeless experience and how social services are delivered to individuals/families.

Maternal-Child Health Division Chair at the University of Colorado’s College of Nursing. His research focuses on the health outcomes of vulnerable adolescent and young-adult populations, specifically runaway/homeless youth and those transitioning out of foster care. Since joining the faculty at Colorado, he has partnered with Urban Peak to investigate health utilization patterns of homeless youth and the effectiveness of a tailored screening and brief intervention for newly homeless youth. He continues to work with Kempe Center and colleagues at the Children’s Hospital of Colorado to study mental health and physical/sexual violence against children.
