Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) admissions requirements and application process

The Process

Steps to Take

Step 1: Check the requirements

Before applying, make sure that you meet these requirements:

Have questions about whether you meet the admissions criteria?
Connect with our enrollment team to discuss your unique situation and how to prepare to apply.

Step 2: Gather your application materials

To apply, submit a complete application in NursingCAS that includes:

Step 3: Submit your application by the deadline

To apply, you’ll need to submit a complete application in NursingCAS. Applications are reviewed in two cycles: priority and extended. We highly recommend that you:

Step 4: Monitor your application status

After you submit your application, please:

  1. Log into NursingCAS periodically to monitor application status.
  2. Confirm that the application is verified and all materials, including reference letters, have been submitted.
  3. Ensure all required materials are received within the 10-day grace period if submitted after the application deadline.
  4. Complete applications will be reviewed by CU Anschutz Nursing staff before being forwarded to faculty. Applicants will be notified via email if additional information is required.

To resend or update a reference request, please refer to the NursingCAS help page.

Step 5: Interview selection and notification

If you meet the minimum criteria, your application is verified in NursingCAS, and you submit all the required materials by the deadline, our faculty will review your application. They will then select candidates for online Zoom interviews. If you’re selected, you will get an invite via email. Please check your email regularly. If you don’t respond to the interview request, you will be withdrawn from the application process.

Step 6: Admissions decision process

Admission decisions will be communicated via the email address provided in your application.

Applicants will be notified if they are admitted, waitlisted, or denied. Please review all communications carefully, as some applicants may be required to meet provisional, probationary, or conditional requirements prior to enrollment.

We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you to CU Anschutz College of Nursing!

Step 7: Complete all pre-enrollment steps

If you receive an offer of admission, congratulations! Please note that while this is exciting (take a moment to pat yourself on the back), there are still a few things you need to do.

Your offer of admission is conditional. You will need to complete pre-enrollment steps including, but not limited to, the following:

Important note

Please don’t start any of the pre-enrollment requirements until we ask you to do so. We will send you detailed information and instructions when the time comes. Many of these requirements are timed, so starting these items prematurely could cost you time and money.

Also, please keep in mind that as an admitted student, you are held to all policy and procedure requirements governed by the University of Colorado and the CU Anschutz College of Nursing.
