Aurora Public Schools' Lead School Nurse Consultant
As a nurse in one of the most diverse school districts in Colorado, Marnie McKercher wanted to enhance her role while forwarding the mission of improving student health. So, she obtained her DNP/MPH from CU Nursing in 2018. According to McKercher, “the role of the school nurse has intensified.” In addition to reading, writing and arithmetic, schools are expected to keep kids safe, educate, assist with disease management, and be on the lookout for kids who are at-risk for behavioral health issues. “There’s a tremendous need for school nurses across Colorado,” said McKercher.
