Anna Winquist joined University of Colorado College of Nursing in 2023. Previously, she was faculty at the University of Washington Bothell in the School of Nursing and Studies where she now holds an Affiliate Faculty position. Anna is passionate about child abuse and neglect research and prevention. Her current research explores nurses recognizing and responding to child abuse and neglect as mandated reporters where she developed the tool, Responding to Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (RSCAN. Additional research topics on environment health and genomics in nursing education, the National Institutes of Health Toolbox-Cognition Battery, and development of a mobile instructional tool for high-risk perinatal individual. Future scholarship interests include parent experience with child welfare services, perinatal individuals and opioid use disorder, and adolescent LGBTQ+ experience with abuse and neglect.

Anna has wide range of professional experiences working with children, families, communities, and institutions spanning to non-profits, hospitals, clinics, policy, and public and private health sectors. Anna’s background as a nurse has focused on perinatal medicine, maternal fetal medicine, and forensic nursing. Courses taught include research, ethics, social dimensions of health, and community health.

Anna is honored to work in the field of academia and be a partner in nursing education. She is humbled and inspired by students who commit to academic learning, and appreciates partnerships within a school, across campus, and in the community. Anna is dedicated to education that inspires a strong, informed voice that utilizes evidence-based practice along with an understanding of the complex, oppressive systems and institutions that shape individuals, families, and communities. Anna encourages a diverse, multi-cultural nursing workplace that mirrors the patient population. Through her research and interest in population health, Anna strives to create a classroom of scholarship that advances the discipline of nursing.
