Dr. Lisa Chappell joins the University of Colorado College of Nursing in August 2024. She is a dedicated nursing educator with over twenty years of experience in academic and clinical settings. Dr. Chappell holds a BSN and MSN from the University of Northern Colorado and a DNP in Advanced Leadership in Health Care from Regis University, where she received The Doctor of Nursing Practice Excellence Award. Dr. Chappell has received numerous teaching award nominations for her innovative and compassionate teaching style. Her innovative approach during the pandemic, which included transforming her garage into a skills lab demonstration space, ensured that all students met skill competencies despite the challenges of remote learning. She is passionate about fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment and has presented at numerous conferences, including the 35th International Nursing Research Congress in Singapore.

Dr. Chappell's clinical background includes neurorehabilitation of traumatic spinal cord and brain-injured patients. Her leadership experience includes serving as Magnet Program Director at a small specialty rehabilitation hospital where she paved the way for their 3rd Magnet recognition and the prestigious Magnet Prize in 2012. Dr. Chappell's research interests include innovative education methodologies, evidence-based practice, and healthcare leadership, and she has authored or co-authored publications in Nurse Educator and the Journal of Nursing Measurement. Dr. Chappell emphasizes a creative and customized teaching approach, believing that each adult learner brings unique frames and experiences to the table. She employs the advocacy-inquiry method, which she learned at Harvard University, to facilitate genuine inquiry and learning. This method involves being honest about observations and curious about the learner's perspectives, enabling her to create effective teaching goals and learning opportunities. Her commitment to continuous learning and interdisciplinary collaboration aims to improve patient care outcomes, reflecting her belief that education is the pathway to innovation and excellence in nursing.
