Preparing students for the routine in order to handle the unknown
The goal of the Simulation Center and Clinical Education Center (CEC) within the University of Colorado College of Nursing is to create significant learning experiences for students to complement direct patient care. By utilizing the Simulation Learning System (SLS) students have access to clinical simulation scenarios accompanied by a complete Electronic Health Record (EHR) and are able to learn and make mistakes without harm to patients.
Simulation provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on practical skills and experiences before they step into a hospital or clinic setting. Complementing direct patient care, the simulation includes standardized patients and scenarios, mannequin-based simulations, and task trainers that allow the repeated practice of a specific skill.
