Specialty Options for MS, BS-DNP, and BS-PhD
The CU College of Nursing offers three advanced practice gerontology programs to meet the needs of the growing elderly population. Students gain expertise in providing patient-centered, safe, competent, culturally sensitive, and evidence-based care to patients. Designed for busy adults, the programs combine a variety of online nursing education options with extensive supervision and onsite classes and intensives — ideal for the student who needs flexibility in scheduling study and class times or the student who lives in a rural area.
Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist
The Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) option prepares nurses to become evidence-based and theory-guided advanced practice nurses providing quality care to acutely and critically ill patients, medical-surgical patients and older adults or elderly patients, as well as to patients requiring palliative care services (chronic illness management and end-of-life care).
Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
Acute Care AGNPs are prepared to formulate clinical, administrative or policy decisions to promote health with clients experiencing acute or chronic illness and to develop, manage and evaluate the care within hospitals and healthcare systems.
Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
AGPCNPs provide primary care to older adolescents and adults. With this curriculum revision, all nurse practitioner graduates will be prepared to care for patients as they age.
