Meet CU Nursing Faculty: Kerry Peterson PhD, DNP, PMHCNS-BC, PMHNP-BC

Dr. Kerry Peterson is an Associate Professor in the College of Nursing and the Specialty Director of the PMHNP program. She holds the appointed Psychiatric Mental Health Endowed Professorship. Dr. Peterson earned her PhD in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University, and her DNP, MSN, and BSN from Shenandoah University. She has over 15 years of experience as a nurse educator teaching in classroom, clinical, and online learning environments. Dr. Peterson is a Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (PMHCNS) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Her clinical experience includes psychiatric inpatient, outpatient, residential/shelter, and campus settings. She has worked extensively with survivors of dating violence and domestic violence. Dr. Peterson’s research interests include prevention and interventions for intimate partner violence and mental illness. She has served as the President of the Colorado Chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and the President of the Xi Phi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She is currently serving as Member-at-Large for the national American Psychiatric Nurses Association.
