Dr. Anna Winquist, who joined the University of Colorado College of Nursing in 2023, brings extensive experience working with children, families, communities, and organizations across non-profits, healthcare, policy, and public health sectors. With a nursing background in perinatal medicine, maternal-fetal medicine, forensic nursing, and population health, she has witnessed the lifelong trauma caused by violence and abuse, driving her commitment to evidence-based research, education, and community programs that promote child protection and positive outcomes.

As a scholar, Dr. Winquist is passionate about child abuse and neglect prevention. Her multi-methods research focuses on nurses as mandated reporters, and she developed the Responding to Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (RSCAN) tool. Her current projects include youth participatory action research (YPAR) and arts-based methods to amplify the voices of youth affected by abuse, shaping policies and programs to address social and health inequities. Her work also spans environmental health, genomics in nursing education, and perinatal care, with a strong commitment to fostering community-academic partnerships to improve health outcomes

Dr. Winquist has taught a wide array of courses, including population health, social justice, bioethics, and interprofessional education. Committed to anti-racist and inclusive pedagogy, trauma-informed care, and equity, she fosters discussions that empower students to address systemic inequities with evidence-based practice and intellectual humility. Through a trauma-informed, strength-based lens, she challenges power structures and promotes cultural change to advance equity and justice. Dedicated to collaborative efforts, Dr. Winquist seeks to reduce health inequities and inspire proactive voices to positively shape institutions and systems.
