Kathy Shaw joined the University of Colorado College of Nursing in 2011. Her nursing specialty is community and population health with a particular interest in underserved populations. She has practiced in a variety of settings including home health, diabetes self-management education, nonprofit clinics and older adult research. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator with a special interest in eliminating health disparities in diabetes self-management education and clinical care for adults. Dr. Shaw's teaching experience spans more than 15 years, including baccalaureate and graduate-level nursing education and staff education/development. She taught at the Medical College of Georgia and at Brenau University prior to relocating to Denver.
Dr. Shaw is a member of the American Nurses Association, the Colorado Nurses Association, the American Association of Diabetes Educators, Sigma Theta Tau and the American Public Health Association. She held the positions of Secretary and Vice-President in the Georgia Nurses’ Association and served as ANA Delegate on several occasions and is currently serving as the Region 1 Representative for the Colorado Nurses' Association.
